Maestro by Mitchell Kanashkevich
People in his village called him ‘Bhopa’ and said that he sometimes performed shamanic rituals to cure scorpion and snake bites. After marrying off his four daughters he became a poor man, even the traditional earrings which the Rabari (this man’s tribe) are famous for, had to be sold. His flock of sheep and goats was all he had left and he took great pride in them. He was able to identify any animal from afar and could distinguish any female by drinking their milk. He used a lot of special sounds for commands while herding the cattle, after a while the sounds of the cattle and his commands began to sound like a ‘desert orchestra’.
